One thing for certain, this year is guaranteed to look differently.

Not traveling home for Thanksgiving hurt my feelings. However, accepting that Christmas wasn’t happening was a truth I didn’t want to believe. For more reason than one, it’s been decided that my family isn’t coming together this year. No ladies only gift exchange with my grandmother, aunts and cousins. No Christmas Eve traditions. No Christmas Day brunch. Sooo many no’s.

As I cope with this reality, I wanted to share some of my coping methods with you all.. hopefully they help someone.

  • Take your time off, it’s yours use it! Even if you’re only relaxing.

  • Cry your tears! Yup, I said it. Release, it’s good for you.

  • If you’re comfortable, make plans within your bubble. Enjoy the time, no judgment here.

  • Be compassionate with yourself and others. These’s times are difficult, allow yourself some room. Feel all the feels. It’s okay!

  • Be forgiving.

  • Enjoy the small moments.

  • Find ways to share/ gather virtually

  • Do the things you always would and send pictures or find a way to do them virtually together.

Of course I know my coping methods aren’t going to magically make things better. They should lighten the load a little. The holidays will look different for a lot of people this year. Spread a little love, If you have some to spare. Your smile, laugh, and maybe even some kinds words could do wonders for someone who needs it!

How are you planning on celebrating the holidays? Will you be able to gather with your friends and family?

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
